The covid pandemic which started in 2019 changed a lot of things in the world around us. There were numerous sectors that were impacted. The hospitality industry suffered a lot. But one thing which history has taught us again and again is, whenever there is an adversity, there is an opportunity.
We have numerous counterparts in the hospitality industry and frequent discussion have led to many thoughtful and insightful discussion about how things can be changed in a positive direction. One of them, the usage of hotel landline. Historically, it has been a representation of room services. Every memory of staying in a hotel room is linked with picking up the phone and dialing the number. But is there an alternative which can improve the user experience, in line with modern trends and styles, without taking away from vintage?
Probably, yes. And that is what we went out to explore and develop. In this blog we will explore a few ways in which hotels can use qr codes.

1. Easy check-in
a. A qr code can be placed on a reception or generated dynamically, and users can scan it to check-in. They can use the same to check-out. No paper, no hassles, fast and keeps track.
b. QR codes can also be placed on doors. Guests can scan to gain access to the room. Safe, secure, and efficient.
2. Amenities and Room Services
Historically, every room has a physical copy of the menu and services. We are introducing digital catalogues for hotel rooms. Just scan the QR code placed on the side table, and you have all information on your phone. Order room service, ask for amenities, ask for services such as laundry / room cleaning, book services such as gym / swimming pool / spa / cab etc. all from your phone. Isn’t it amazing?
3. Feedback
Collect quick feedback by letting your guests scan a QR Code and give the feedback on their phone. Quick, and smooth.
4. Accessing details
Let’s say you are in your room and need the WiFi password. Or need the details of the cab you booked, or any other relevant information. Scan the QR Code and get it under a specific menu. Simple, isn’t it?
5. Events
Let’s say you are planning to schedule an event. And you want all your guests to be aware of it. How to spread the word?
Put QR Codes in common areas. Or when they scan the QR from their room, post a digital banner with relevant details in the default scanned link. There are numerous ways to handle this and promote your event.
6. Loyalty programs
Do you have a set of loyal customers who keep coming back? Want to have some way in which that they can be tracked, special offers can be given to them, and make them feel special? The answer is straightforward – Yes, with QR codes.
7. Share offers and discounts
As a part of marketing, let your guests share a QR Code with their close friends and family, and upon scanning they get a discount. Same, for promotion on social media sites. Lovely, isn’t it? Who doesn’t want a discount btw?
